Experience the Thrill of Dubai’s Desert Safari

I was recently lucky enough to experience a trip to Dubai and all it has to offer. It really is an experience and a place like no other. On the second day, the trip included a Morning Desert Safari.

I was staying at The JA Ocean View hotel at Dubai Marina, and the excursion I had booked included being picked up from the hotel.

9:15 am

I was picked up in a 4×4 outside the hotel alongside 5 others in our group.

We arrived at the desert at about 10 am and were offered water bottles. I was encouraged to try on and buy Arabian headwear. This felt like quite a hard sell, although I imagine the headwear is very practical attire to protect you from the intense heat.

Quad biking

Going quad biking at full speed through the desert with a tour guide? It was well worth the extra £30 to upgrade my experience!

Although I had been provided with helmets and an option of staying within a fenced-off area, it would have felt like being in jail. Instead, I got adventurous – and boy, did it pay off!

My hour spent on four wheels (or four?) flying across hot sands left me feeling exhilarated – though not tired enough for sleep that night.

Time for a break! Water and fizzy drinks were available to purchase.I was under the impression from the excursion booking that refreshments such as dates, Arabian tea, and local produce would be provided but this wasn’t offered.

I highly recommend taking snacks and water with you as it can get very hot in the desert!

The group was then taken in the 4×4 for the Dune Bashing activity.

This was a very speedy ride across the hills of the desert. It lasted about 10 -15 minutes and was a lot of fun. This isn’t recommended for anyone who suffers from motion sickness!

Next was camel riding. There was a part of this that I didn’t particularly enjoy. I am not sure how much of this is a genuine issue for them, but the camels seemed unhappy and groaned in the heat, especially when kneeling and letting their passengers on and off their backs.

The best part of the excursion for me was the next part.

11:45 am

The group was taken to a high point in the desert for sandboarding. This was fast and a lot of fun.

We were then taken on quite a long drive in the 4×4 to an area with a few shops. There was an opportunity to look around the shops and buy drinks and souvenirs.

12:30 pm

After this, we were transferred back to the hotel for cocktails. It’s a tough life, but someone has to do it, right?!
